I just heard recently for the first time of the North Pacific Gyre. Apparently, it is a huge collection of floating garbage covering twice the surface area of the state of Texas. It floats in the Pacific Ocean somewhere between Hawaii and California. All the garbage there is said to weigh more than 3.5 million tonnes. The thought that something like this might exist first came to me on an isolated beach on a small island named Ikema. Ikema Island is in the island chain of Okinawa. This island chain traces a line from the southern tip of Japan to the island of Taiwan. Directly north of Ikema Island is the peninsula of Korea. Further south is the Philippines …

Hi DoAn,
It was great to meet you at the warehouse and see/be part of the magic that is your visuals. I recognized the clip you looped from this video of the bottles caught in the water. Your video speaks to me as I am a freediver, and I have heard lots of stories, particularly a friend who had gone down to dive Dean’s blue hole http://www.stellamarisdiving.com/bluehole.html and said that he was surpised that something so beautiful had a blanket of floating garbage. It makes me sad, particularly since I know the waters so intimately, knowing that the waters I dive in will not be the same waters my children will dive in.
I would love to have an opportunity to contribute to your passion for filming/passion for water. I particularly remember looping the goldfish shots and thinking how wonderful it would be to do a film of myself swimming as a mermaid (I have the costume), and you could use that as you pleased, particularly at events such as the Warehouse show you were just at. If this intrests you, let me know.
Again, it was great to meet you, and inspiring,
Brianna
